Senior representatives from philanthropy and the Australian Government came together for a special roundtable to help shape the Second Action Plan (2025–2028) under the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022–2032.
The roundtable highlighted IDAC’s role in creating a bridge between philanthropy and government, providing a trusted forum for collaboration, shared learning and ways to broker investment.
Hosted by IDAC, the roundtable brought together Assistant Minister for Social Services and Assistant Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence, the Hon Ged Kearney MP, IDAC philanthropic members and leaders from the broader philanthropic sector to explore how philanthropy and government can work more effectively together to strengthen prevention and early intervention.
Participants discussed how philanthropic investment can complement government investment by supporting innovation, generating evidence, and helping test and scale approaches that strengthen outcomes for children and families.
Consistent with the Second Action Plan’s focus on prevention, the consultation explored opportunities to invest earlier, addressing the underlying drivers and risk factors that contribute to family, sexual and domestic violence before harm occurs. Participants reflected on the importance of collaboration that recognises the complementary roles of government and philanthropy in achieving long-term social change.
Areas of interest shared by philanthropy included:
- Holistic supports for all members of a family and local communities
- Men, boys, fathering and positive masculinity
- Support for workforces that work with families
The consultation forms part of IDAC’s ongoing work to build stronger partnerships between government and philanthropy, helping create the conditions for more coordinated, evidence-informed investment in prevention and early intervention across Australia.
